Coach Dockery ran competitively into his mid-50’s. He ran competitively at Glendale Hoover HS and Glendale Junior College, and San Diego State University. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Mt. Carmel HS in 1990 and came to Rancho Bernardo HS in 1997. Coach “Doc” has been coaching Track & Field and Cross Country for 24 years. As Head Coach for cross country, Dockery’s teams have won four San Diego Section CIF titles and qualified 14 times to the California State meet. He has been named the SDSCIF Cross Country “Coach of the Year” three times and has been the meet director of the Bronco Round Up Cross Country Invitational since 2000. Under his coaching in track, 22 runners have qualified to the California State meet, with 14 athletes qualifying for the State finals in track. Coach Doc has had athletes win California State titles in both cross country and track. He has coached some of the greatest distance runners in San Diego history, including Molly Grabill, who was elected to the San Diego Section CIF Hall of Fame’s initial class in 2011.
